[Today for you, tomorrow for me]: 256.Poetry.A Promise Kept

Ok, a little starting note on this. A few of my poems were inspired by the wonderful artists on Elfwood. This is one of them. Two or three of my poems were inspired by this same artist. She's amazing, I suggest you check her stuff out!

Years come and years go
To let the ones we lose know
Its them we love, them we miss
Even after they no longer exist

Like ghost on his grave
She'd wait, and try to be brave
A promise was made
A promise he betrayed

She never stopped loving him
Her feelings weren't just a whim
She kept her end of the deal
To her this would always be real

She sat all alone one day
Having given up on him in dismay
Her thoughts interrupted by some rude stranger
Someone, some unknown lost ranger.

Annoyed she looked up upon his face
Startled to see the one she could never replace.
But the war had taken her love
This she was sure of!

"This cannot be true,
Its a dream, a ruse"
Her mind was playing tricks again today
But this once, she would play along anyway

She walked into his embrace to feel
The one in her arms was real!
The next thing she knew he spun her around
Her laughter real again, and profound

He had kept his promise in the end
That was all her heart needed to mend
A joy that she had earned
Was again, once he returned
